Cutting & Sewing Directions
Center square:
Fabric C, 1 square 3 3/8"
Fabric B, 1 square 4". Divide diagonally twice to make 4 triangles.
Sew one of the triangles to one side of the square, matching long side of the triangle to the side of the square. Sew a second triangle to the opposite of the square. Finish by sewing the last 2 triangle to the other two sides of the square. Press out and square up to 4 1/2
Corner Squares
Fabric B: 2 Squares 2 7/8
Fabric C: 4 Squares 2 7/8
Fabric D: 6 Squares 2 7/8 & 4 squares 2 1/2"
Layer each fabric B and Fabric C square right sides together with a fabric D square. Make half square triangle blocks with each.
To make half square triangle blocks: On the back of the lighter of the fabrics, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. Then 1/4" on either side of one of the line, draw 2 stitching lines. With two squares, right sides together, sew on the two outside stitching lines. Then cut into 2 halves on the line between the two stitching lines. Press out and you will have 2, half square triangle blocks.Following the diagram, sew each B/D square together with a C/D square and each D square together with a C/D square. Then assemble as a 4 patch.
To make quarter square triangles units: Place two squares right side together. On the back of the lighter of the fabrics, draw a line diagonally from corner to corner. Then another line diagonally from corner to corner making an X. These will be cutting lines. Then 1/4" on either side of one of the lines, draw 2 stitching lines on either side of the diagonal line. With two squares, right sides together, sew on the two outside stitching lines. Then cut into 2 halves on the line between the two stitching lines. Then divide those two parts on the other line. Press out and you will have 4, 1/4 square triangles.
Side Squares:
Fabric A: Cut 2 Squares, 5 1/4"
Fabric D: Cut 2 Squares, 5 1/4"
Layer each fabric A square right sides together with a fabric D square. Make quarter square triangle blocks. Sew together in squares, matching long sides of the triangles.
Square all sections up to 4 1/2" and assemble as a 9-patch using color photo for placement of 4 patches.
